An icon remastered
From 1968 to 1980, in the hands of rally legends like Roger Clark and Hannu Mikkola, the Escort Mk 1 and Mk 2 launched a golden era for Ford Motorsport in Europe. All this racing knowledge was then engineered into affordable ‘Rallye Sport’ versions of otherwise standard road cars. What started with the Mk 1 RS1600 developed into a full blown love affair, particularly strong in the UK, where the majority of cars were build and sold – the joyous handling and high revving soundtrack of the simple, yet devastatingly effective Cosworth BDA engine creating a cult following of the ‘RS’ moniker that resonates to this day.
